Dangle a bad public policy/national security idea in front of AL-05 Congressman Mo Brooks, and he’ll leap at it like a Labrador Retriever after a ham bone. Rep. Brooks, who is too terrified of his North Alabama constituents to hold town hall meetings (unless sponsored by the TEA Party), is all in-on President’s Trump’s decision to abandon an important Middle Eastern ally and increase Russian influence in the region.
Meanwhile, AL-01 Rep. Bradley Byrne is making yet another run at higher office, and obviously has decided that boarding the crazy train is his ticket to a Senate seat. Hey, it’s probably a better strategy than denouncing evolution while standing in the produce aisle of the New Hope Piggly Wiggly.
We already knew Brooks had no guts. Now he’s confirmed that he has no honor.
But Bradley Byrne? His vote isn’t a surprise either. The 1992 Bill Clinton donor (and possible delgate!) has an incurable case of “I’ll-Say-Anything-To-Win” syndrome.
The House of Representatives voted 345-60 today to condemn Trumps decision to pull American troops out of Northern Syria. Here’s how our Alabama Representatives voted on an issue that Senator Lindsey Graham has termed a strategic blunder and warned that, because of it, Trump “will have American blood on his hands.”
- AL-01 Rep. Bradley Byrne: NO
- AL-02 Rep. Martha Roby: YES
- AL-03 Rep. Gary Palmer: YES
- AL-04 Rep. Robert Aderholdt: YES
- AL-05 Rep. Mo Brooks: NO
- AL-07 Rep. Terri Sewell: YES
All 60 “no” votes (opposing the resolution) were Republicans. It’s a less-than-stellar list that includes Rep. Steve (“cantaloupe calves“) King, Rep. Duncan (“now under indictment“) Hunter, Rep. Louie (“too many dumb statements to list“) Gohmert, and Rep. Matt (“it’s not my committee, but let me in anyway”) Gaetz.
The “Turkish Coalition of America’s Congressional Caucus,” lists Reps. Brooks, Byrne, and Aderholdt as members. I wonder if Aderholdt will still be welcome at the next meeting.
Dear Rep. Brooks and Byrne: you’re known by the company you keep. Take a long look in the mirror and think about running with a better crowd.
