Hey everybody. Thanks for letting me introduce myself. I’m a 15-year resident of Alabama, own a loft in downtown Birmingham, and am creative director at an ad agency. I’m not a party insider. I’ve never been to a political convention before. But what motivated and excited me to get involved in Alabama politics was the Doug Jones campaign.
I canvassed for the campaign on Election Day, and guess I was pretty motivated, because they kept giving me more apartment complexes in Center Point, and I kept coming back for more. On election night, they asked me to become a poll watcher. When I watched the tape come out of the machine, I felt like I was looking at history. And best of all, I was there at Saturn at the moment when everybody realized that Doug Jones was going to be our next US Senator. The entire room went absolutely insane. You can see it for yourself here.
Do you remember that moment? Do you remember what that night felt like?
As a downtown resident, I can see what happens when everyone – black, white, LGBTQ, newcomer, and longtime resident – comes together. Birmingham is coming back to life, thanks to a brilliant millennial African-American mayor who understands that bringing together all our constituencies is the only way forward.
And that’s the way Mayor Pete sees it. That’s why I believe Pete Buttigeig is the right man to be the next President of the United States.
- I was there in Miami in 2008 for Barack Obama, showing the way to polling places for hundreds of senior citizens.
- I was there in trailer parks in Tallahassee, Florida in 2012, slipping past the occasional pit bull to knock on doors for President Obama just before the election.
- I was there wandering subdivisions in Hendersonville, North Carolina in 2016, visiting voters’ homes and passing out information about Hillary Clinton.
It would now be an honor for me to be in Milwaukee for you, representing our great state and the candidacy of Mayor Pete Buttigeig for President. I promise to thoughtfully represent our state’s diverse interests in the exercise of my vote, and do my very best to make you proud.
Are you running as a delegate for a Democratic candidate or as a Democratic Uncommitted delegate? Share your story with the Left in Alabama community and ask for votes. Too often, people just see a list of delegate candidates and randomly select a few names. But these delegates represent YOU at the convention! They vote on the platform and they vote for the nominee. Give them a reason to vote for you!
Visit our post “Are You Running for a DNC Delegate Spot in 2020? Let us Help!” to learn how to submit your story and the rules/guidelines. We’ll share all articles on our social media and you can use them to promote your candidacy.
