I am Louise McPhillips, running for the first time as a Democratic delegate candidate pledged to Pete Buttigieg for President. First, a couple of personal notes. Pete’s mother, Anne, was actually one of my favorite English teachers in high school! Pete and our oldest son were also college classmates, having met over 20 years ago. So I really do know him to be bright, thoughtful, hard working, authentic and strong.
Pete has set the tone of his campaign to reflect his values, his faith, and his service to country. He is a pragmatic progressive, with policies which will make the lives of all Americans better every day. Here is a link to Pete’s website for all his positions on the issues: PeteForAmerica.com. Pete’s campaign staff is diverse (more than 50% are women and more than 40% are people of color) and he has pledged to make his cabinet at least 50% women! His volunteers and supporters are unfailingly positive, energized, and devoted.
Last fall, my husband, Frank, and I traveled to Des Moines, Iowa with over 1,200 other supporters from all over the country, known as the “Barnstormers for Pete.” There we met up in regional groups, went to workshops, marched for and cheered Pete at the Liberty and Justice Celebration.
Since then, we helped coordinate a visit from Pete Buttigieg to Alabama. In Montgomery, he was especially moved by his tour of the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, his conversations with Bryan Stevenson and his meetings with local leaders.
- We also helped organize a hugely successful fundraiser for him in Birmingham.
- We have attended local Pete-ups and watch parties, hosted campaign staff in our home, and represented Pete at local Democratic Party meetings.
- We look forward to more canvassing and calling as we have done every election for 40 years in the 6th Congressional District.
I hope to expand the electorate and increase turnout by asking my friends and neighbors to support Pete Buttigieg for President in the Alabama Democratic primary. Please visit/like my Facebook page. I also ask for your vote as a Buttigieg pledged delegate. Thank you so much.
Are you running as a delegate for a Democratic candidate or as a Democratic Uncommitted delegate? Share your story with the Left in Alabama community and ask for votes. Too often, people just see a list of delegate candidates and randomly select a few names. But these delegates represent YOU at the convention! They vote on the platform and they vote for the nominee. Give them a reason to vote for you!
Visit our post “Are You Running for a DNC Delegate Spot in 2020? Let us Help!” to learn how to submit your story and the rules/guidelines. We’ll share all articles on our social media and you can use them to promote your candidacy.
