My name is Tara Bailey and I am asking for your vote to be a delegate for Bernie in CD-05. Having worked closely with all of the other delegates I can honestly say there is no bad choice. All of us have volunteered our time and donated our money to support Bernie.
If I become a delegate for Bernie I pledge to keep all of the Bernie supporters in District 5 and across Alabama informed as to what is taking place at the convention. I know we are all a bit on edge to see what will happen with the delegate count and I will do everything I can to ensure Bernie becomes our next President.
A little about me…
- I moved to Alabama from Ohio after I graduated college in 2004.
- While in college I was a member of the group Democracy Matters whose entire mission was to work towards getting big money out of politics.
- I also led the student Tobacco Coalition where I worked to draw attention to how many people die from smoking and call attention to the tobacco lobbyists who were working hard to buy off our politicians and convince the public that smoking wasn’t all that harmful.
In 2015/16 my husband got the opportunity to work for a company in Colorado. We ended up moving to Parker, CO located in Douglas County. It is the seventh wealthiest county in the United States so you know how conservative it was. While living there I learned about Bernie Sanders and began becoming active in his campaign.
Hearing Bernie talk about cleaning up the corruption in DC and reversing Citizens United is what initially sparked my interest and after hearing the rest of his platform I was all in for Bernie.
My first daughter was born on April 27th, 2015. Having a newborn only made my desire to see Bernie become our next President that much greater. We held many canvassing and phone banking events where I met some fantastic Bernie supporters. Through the caucus process I had the privilege of being a delegate for Bernie to the state level. We ended up winning Douglas County and the state of Colorado for Bernie! Knowing that our volunteer work played a small part in that victory was a feeling I’ll never forget.
After the state convention my family and I made the decision to move back to Madison, Alabama. Knowing how awesome Bernie supporters are I knew I needed to find these amazing people in Alabama. I met a few supporters and kept in contact over the next couple of years.
Once Bernie announced that he was running for President a second time I couldn’t wait to start getting organized. Myself along with a couple other Bernie supporters hit the ground running. At this time I was 6 months pregnant with my twin daughters. Now I had three great reasons for Bernie to be our next President.
Just a couple days before giving birth to my twin girls I helped organize the Bernie kickoff event at Lowe Mill along with Ava (a fellow Bernie supporter running to be a delegate who has put countless hours, time and money into Bernie’s campaign) and Bill (another amazing Bernie supporter who formerly led Our Revolution in Birmingham before moving to Huntsville and continues to volunteer for Bernie along with other noble causes).
I am an admin of the group North Alabama for Bernie Sanders where we now have over 480 group members. My hope is to harness the power of our amazing group to not only get Bernie elected President, but to champion other progressive causes in our state and country. We have a few days left to get as many votes for Bernie as possible!
Please visit events.berniesanders.com and sign up for an event near you! I’m hosting a canvassing event in Madison this Saturday and
Would love to see you there!
