Last January, Elizabeth Warren announced her candidacy, and I was SO THERE for it. I am there for it because I am tired of the wealthy few pitting the rest of us against one another while they steal the country’s future for their selfish gain. I am there for it because she is both progressive and pragmatic. I’m there for it because I want a president who does her homework, is open to evolving her views, and has a plan.
At 32, I feel I am both old and young enough to see what it is looks like to have a future stolen away. I am old enough to remember a time before the drumbeat of climate change was deafening and relentless, but young enough for it directly impact me. I am old enough to have my college tuition comparatively low when I started, but I am young enough to get hit with a 27% hike in a single year.
I am old enough to receive a minimum wage raise while saving for college, but young enough to know people trying to save for their college education on the same exact wage a decade later. I am young enough to have directly benefited from the ACA by staying on my parents’ health care while I finished my education, but old enough to contemplate being a parent myself and the financial risk it poses.
Like far too many people in Alabama, I was told it didn’t matter what I did, my progressive vote will not count for much in this heavily red state, things are going to stay the same and just “get over it.”
I’m not going to pretend I didn’t fall for that lie in the past, but I am not falling for it again. That’s because of Elizabeth Warren. Her energy and passion are infectious, and you better believe I am ready to Dream Big and Fight Hard this year.
I’m running as a delegate for Elizabeth Warren this year in the 5th Congressional District. I strongly believe in her candidacy and I can’t wait to call her my president.

Are you running as a delegate for a Democratic candidate or as a Democratic Uncommitted delegate? Share your story with the Left in Alabama community and ask for votes. Too often, people just see a list of delegate candidates and randomly select a few names. But these delegates represent YOU at the convention! They vote on the platform and they vote for the nominee. Give them a reason to vote for you! Visit our post “Are You Running for a DNC Delegate Spot in 2020? Let us Help!” to learn how to submit your story and the rules/guidelines. We’ll share all articles on our social media and you can use them to promote your candidacy.
Thank you, Dr. Britt, and everyone else willing to step up and put yourself out there as a candidate. Good luck to you all!!
