My name is Andrew Cryer, and I am running as a Delegate for Bernie Sanders. I am running because young and queer Democrats need to have representation at the national convention. I support Bernie Sanders as a 21-year-old gay man and college student because he has always fought for me, and I am willing to fight for him. He will have my vote on the first and all subsequent ballots if necessary.
- I have supported Bernie since 2015 when I was an organizer with the Cullman Progressives because of his robust anti-poverty policy platform.
- I joined the Alabama Poor People’s Campaign for their Moral Mondays in Montgomery.
- I marched with the national campaign in June of 2017. That made me realize the power of collective action and what can be accomplished with the power of “BIG US.”
While in college, I have seen students skip meals to save a few dollars. College must be made tuition-free, and we must eliminate ALL student debt, not just an arbitrary fraction. Bernie is the only candidate who will eliminate all student debt as the student debt crisis has begun to destroy the financial futures of generation Z students like myself.
I am the only “Generation Z” Bernie Delegate candidate in the 5th District.
Over half of my generation supports Bernie because he is the candidate of intersectionality and environmental justice. We are the most diverse, most queer, and the generation most concerned with the future of this planet—because we will inhabit a dying world and raise children under the realities of climate change. We have organized the Sunrise Movement in favor of a Green New Deal to modernize our infrastructure and create millions of green jobs.
North Alabama can directly benefit from the Green New Deal with expanded use of carbon credits, a focus on rural communities when building solar and wind farms, and so much more.
When you vote on March 3rd, please ask yourself, “am I willing to fight for someone that I don’t know?” Bernie Sanders has been fighting for us since before my mother was born. He was there at critical junctures, when taking a bold and progressive stand was not popular. Bernie has always been on the right side of history. I hope that you will listen to the concerns of the next generation of Democrats, who will live to see the consequences of this election for generations to come and join us.
