Tonight the Alabama Senate passed a health care opt out bill .
Senate Bill 233 by Sen. Scott Beason, R-Gardendale, would let Alabama voters decide July 31 whether to rewrite the state constitution to say that ”a law or rule shall not compel, directly or indirectly, any person, employer or health care provider to participate in any health care system.”
Probably not too surprising considering the political climate in this state. However, I find it pretty amazing that this vote broke completely down racial lines as the only Democratic Senators voting no were the 8 black Senators
Coleman, L. (Birmingham); Dunn, P. (Bessemer); Figures, V. (Mobile); Penn, M. (Union Springs); Ross, Q. (Montgomery); Sanders, H. (Selma); Singleton, B. (Greensboro); Smitherman, R. (Birmingham).
Not one of the white Democrats in the Senate were willing to stand against the bill which would would clearly violate the supremacy clause. What a colossal waste of time. Even as a State Senator if you don’t agree with the recent health care bill passing how can you vote for such a waste of legislation. Mind boggling.
