Martha Roby is totally spaced out on conservative la-la weed, judging from her comments at a Chamber of Commerce meeting yesterday.
“We're cutting spending so we can get money back into the hands of the private sector, get money back into your hands so you can do what you do best, and that's create jobs.”
Roby also said she believed the jobs report this month would be “devastating,” but said she would oppose any stimulus proposals …
Over the last decade the “private sector” has enjoyed monumental tax cuts. Putting all that money “back in their hands” has just about bankrupted the country, and what have they done with it? Either hoarded it or used it to create jobs overseas. Unfortunately for Roby, all those workers in China can't vote in Dothan or Montgomery.
Roby's statements make no sense at all. The private sector has been hiring for the last 17 months, it's public sector job losses that have kicked the recovery in the teeth. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, federal, state, and local government payrolls fell by 1,130,000 between June 2009 and July 2011 and if the government workforce had remained steady, the unemployment rate would never have gone as high as 10% and would be almost a point lower right now. But to Martha Roby, the way to create jobs is to lay more people off.
The Obama stimulus worked, but it wasn't enough, and la-la Republicans like Martha Roby are doing everything possible — including forcing more public sector job losses — to make sure no more stimulus measures are enacted before the 2012 election. After all, Job 1 for Republicans is to make Obama a one-termer, not to create jobs for millions of America. The only job she's trying to protect is her own.
