A dark-money organization called the “45 Committee” that supported the Trump presidential campaign has turned its attention to Alabama Senator & Attorney General nominee Jeff Sessions. The group produced a TV ad titled “Champion.” It shows Sessions hanging out with President Barack Obama and Rep. John Lewis while asserting that Sessions has “a lifetime of fighting for justice.”
Sure he does. Learn more here.
The ad is running on CNN and in Washington DC. Two LIA readers report seeing on TV during a visit to South Florida as well.
Who’s behind this effort? Nobody knows exactly. The “45 Committee” was set up in during the 2016 election cycle to take unlimited, unreportable donations. Here’s a nice little tidbit from Politico about why that is:
“There is a substantial appetite for a nondisclosing vehicle, because it’s embarrassing to support Trump,” said a fundraiser who is familiar with — but not connected to — Ricketts’ fundraising effort. “There are more donors who are willing to support Donald anonymously than with their names on it.”
Apparently, funders also find it’s more comfortable to support Jeff Sessions anonymously as well.
Nobody in Alabama is surprised by that.
