As I watched former Senator Mike Gravel in the debate this evening, it struck me that he may be a walking time capsule.
I know he may have looked a little over the top to many viewers, but could that be because the “top” has been redefined? He confronted Chris Mathews very thoroughly on legislative tactics to end the Iraq Occupation – particularly: just because you don’t have the votes now to overide a veto DOES NOT mean you will never have them!
His plan was very simple – keep introducing the same bill over and over and highlight Repuke efforts to filibuster it each and every day. This ties the war around thier necks most thoroughly, and when they finally realize that Bush will be gone after 2008, it will be a boat anchor.
What impressed me about Mike Gravel as a time capsule, was that he sounded like someone who had already been down the road of civility and decorum in dealing with the Nixon administraton and learned that thugs do not respond to civility well, as they regard it as weakness.
Since many of the same Nixon administration players and many of the same Nixon administration tactics are being re-played today, we should take advantage of the prior experience of people who know what crooks will do.
Therefore, if Mike Gravel sounds a little nutty to you, just think what he has lived through – and compare that era to today!!
