(Unbelievably reckless and irresponsible! – promoted by mooncat)
Well, not that we should be surprised at what our resident troll has done, but, as reported on al.com:
WVNN's morning show host, Dale Jackson, posted a fake news release from “Marion S. Barber, Secretary of Electoral Elections,” saying that people who planned to vote for Democratic candidate Hall shouldn't come out to vote until Wednesday.
al.com also reports that Jackson read the “news release” on his morning radio show, and did not make an on-air retraction or clarification. He did reportedly clarify the matter for those who called in to the station. When you're so far out there that Beth “Charity Double Dip” Chapman is condemning you, you're past saving. Of course, a more fitting punishment might be making him eat some of Sanford's really mediocre barbecue.
Note from mooncat:
Are you outraged that this “radio personality” took it upon himself to disenfranchise “people dumb enough to fall for his stunt?” Since when does he get to administer a poll test? I'm not quite sure of the proper authority to handle complaints, but here are a few ideas for starters:
Alabama Attorney General Troy King: 334-242-7300; Office of the Attorney General, 500 Dexter Avenue Montgomery, AL 36130; Email
Madison County District Attorney Rob Broussard: 256-532-3460; 100 North Side Square Suite 400, Huntsville, AL 35801; Email
Alabama Secretary of State Beth Chapman: 334-242-7200
The Radio People
File a complaint with the FCC: 1-888-225-5322. Include the following information: (1) the date and time of the alleged broadcast — June 9, 2009, between 6 and 9 am; (2) the call sign or the frequency of the station involved – WVNN; and (3) the name of the program – The Dale Jackson Show, the DJ personality – Dale Jackson, and the city and state – Huntsville, Alabama; (4) information regarding the details of what was actually said (Broadcast a known fake “press release” on election day instructing Democratic voters to vote on Wednesday instead of Tuesday.)
Complain to the WVNN Program Director: email@example.com
Complain to WVNN owner: Cumulus Licensing LLC, 3280 Peachtree Rd., Suite 2300, Atlanta , GA, 30305; 404-949-0700
The goal should be making sure there's a stiff penalty for using the public airwaves to spread false election information and suppress voting — to prevent another stunt like this in a future election.
