The US Senate is voting today on a bill to end $4 billion a year in government subsidies (taxpayer funded giveaways) to big oil companies. Republicans like Richard Shelby ($144K from Energy & Natural Resources contributors) and Jeff Sessions ($286.5 K from Energy & Natural Resources contributors) are expected to vote to keep subsidizing Big Oil.
As a taxpayer, I'd like to know why my Republican Senators are so convinced we should keep handing these people tax money at the same time we're handing them more for every gallon of gas we buy?
After all, the more Americans pay at the pump, the bigger the profits of Big Oil.
We don't need to be giving money to Big Oil, we need to be spending money on developing alternative sources of energy so Big Oil won't have us over this barrel from now on.
