After reading in several places, I sent this email to Griffith:
“I contributed $50.00 to Mr. Griffith at a fundraiser held at The Glover
Restaurant in Guntersville. This was the same fundraiser at which he told me he would support the Democratic Platform and that we needed to elect enough Democrats to support and get (then candidate) Obama's agenda passed.
I have requested my contribution back previously, after Griffith's vote against Lily Ledbetter. I am again requesting it be returned to me.
My money is too hard to come by to donate to a person who does not keep his word”.
Imagnine my surprise at this response (sarcasm intended):
“While I understand your feelings regarding my recent decision to join the Republican Conference, we are unable to refund any contributions from the previous campaign cycle. Our records indicate that your contribution was made toward the 2008 campaign and those funds were spent during that election contest. If these records are in error please let me know.
I hope that you will continue to follow my votes and actions in Congress on behalf of the issues, programs and jobs critical to our community and that I can once again earn your support in the future.
Sincerely, Congressman Parker Griffith”
Didn't I read he had a surplus after 2008? I'm sure my $50 is in that surplus…The only error here is mine; believing this hypocrite in the beginning. Once again earn my support with his votes and actions??? Do I have a sign on my forehead?
I'm not sure that I really expected a refund; however, I wanted to make the demand and tell him why I was making it. At my house, fifty dollars is equal to two bags of dog food and the dogs are much more deserving of the expenditure!
