While the world was transfixed Saturday by one of the globe’s largest protests ever, Alabama State Senator Cam Ward (R-Alabaster) was sharing misleading “slut photos” on Twitter. Yes campers, the guy often touted as one of the more “reasonable Republicans” in the Alabama Legislature (see his prison reform proposals) seems to have decided it was time to shore up his Tea Party credentials.
God help us all.
FUNNY UPDATE: We tried to promote this post in a Facebook ad, but FB determined it was “profane.” But apparently, not too offensive for Senator Ward to put on his Twitter feed!
Senator Ward apparently forgot that his job is to be an avuncular mediator in the Alabama Senate: the guy who smooths ruffled independent feathers when his fellow Republicans introduce dumb legislation like “let’s make Alabama schools more like Congress” bills.
Uncle Cam fell off the wagon yesterday – not for the first time, apparently – and launched a bizarre Twitter campaign against the Women’s March.
The problem with this photo? It’s not from Saturday’s march. It’s not even from this year! He posted a photo from the Chicago “SlutWalk” of 2015 – an anti-sexual violence protest.
We’ll march, protest, chant, laugh, sing, speak out and listen to one another as we talk about the realities of living inside rape culture and build a community to fight it!
The 2015 event addressed an important topic and was a YUGE event of 4,200 people (according to the event Facebook page), making it totally comparable to the Women’s Marches, right? After all, Saturday’s march on Washington alone drew 3 times as many people as the Trump Inauguration pulled in on Friday.
So it’s no wonder that Ward got some – ahem – pushback on Twitter.
